How do vaccines work?

Vaccines are a safe and efficient way to prevent the spread of many communicable diseases. Vaccines are intended to stimulate the immune system so that it produces antibodies that prevent illness. Immunization helps the immune system build up resistance to disease.

Who needs to be vaccinated?

Keeping immunizations up-to-date is a process that begins at birth and continues throughout life. Other Factors that determine which vaccines are necessary include: occupation (working with the public), foreign travel outside of Canada and certain chronic medical conditions. Childrens’ immunization needs differ from those of adults
